- Why? To grow in understanding of non-profits working on behalf of justice and to deepen appreciation for what the ancient prophets did and how they may relate to today's world.
- Check for books - If needed one more time!
- Espacio: Living life from the inside-out.
- SF Chronicle article 9/8/16: "Obama pushes back on U.S. isolationism" - Associated Press
- So when an Indonesian woman asked Obama about American multiculturalism and the edict “e pluribus unum” — out of many, one — Obama seized the chance to explain that when times are tough and people feel stressed “they turn on others who don’t look like them.” He said that’s why it’s critical for the U.S. to promote principles that rise above any individual religion, nationality or race.
- “Not everybody in America agrees with me on this, by the way,” Obama said. After a moment’s hesitation, he added: “I’ll leave it at that.”
- SF Chronicle article 9/9/16: "Sweeping climate measures signed" | LINK
- AB32: greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030
- At a signing ceremony Thursday in Los Angeles, the governor slammed oil companies and automakers that he said had, over the years, repeatedly tried to block California’s efforts to slow global warming. “There’s powerful opposition,” Brown said. “These are real people with real bucks and real influence.” He pledged to continue pushing climate legislation anyway. “It’s going to take battle, some wisdom, and it’s going to take some balance so we don’t overdo it,” he said.
- Brown last year issued an executive order setting the 40 percent reduction target, and his predecessor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, released his own order in 2005 calling for an 80 percent emissions cut by 2050. But executive orders can be easily discarded by future administrations. Laws cannot.
