- MORE ON THE PARABLE OF THE LANDOWNER (Mt. 20: 1-16)
- Question #1: Think about the first questions from Part I on the parable of the workers in the vineyard. Can one be fair an and not equal? Explain.
- Yes one can be fair while not being equal. The landowner in the story paid each worker the same amount despite the number of hours worked. This was fair because the land owner knew that if the workers who had worked the fewest amount hours were hired early in the morning they would have done all the work requested of them. Yet he was not being equal because he did not pay the workers proportionate to the amount or work done, he did not pay them equally based on the number of hours worked.
- Question #2: Was the master in the vineyard parable more fair than equal, more equal than fair, both or neither? Why? [If we discussed this parable in class, draw on that discussion in your answer.]
- The land owner was being more fair than equal. He understood that it was not the fault of the workers for working so few hours, he knew that if given the opportunity earlier in the day the workers would have worked all day long.

San Francisco, CA – GLIDE’s Center for Social Justice is proud to continue its thought leaders’ series with a screening of the documentary film Dogtown Redemption, an intimate story of recyclers in West Oakland—a journey through a landscape of love and loss, devotion and addiction, prejudice and poverty.
Following the screening, there will be a special GLIDE Talk with the film’s co-director, Amir Soltani, recycler and former minister Pastor Landon Goodwin and the Coalition on Homelessness' Executive Director Jennifer Freidenbach in conversation with GLIDE associate pastor Rev. Theon Johnson III.
A surprising number of Americans make their living off vast rivers of trash. They are America's unseen. Dismissed as scavengers and pests, these "pirates of trash" come to life in Dogtown Redemption, the story of an underclass of shopping cart recyclers, poor entrepreneurs who defy Darwin every day, cheating death and despair by seeking redemption in trash.
The film follows the lives of three recyclers: Jason Witt, the titan of recycling; Landon Goodwin, a former minister, who struggles with his own fall from grace; and Miss Hayok Kay, the ultimate outsider, formerly a punk rocker from a prominent Korean family and, now at the mercy of the elements and predators.
