- What? First day of Service Internships
- Why? To experientially engage justice in various ways in a variety of service internships
The Senior Service Internship Program is unique to Stuart Hall High School. No other high school offers such an extended service learning engagement. As part of the senior level Theology class, Justice: Theory & Society, students have the opportunity during their senior year to experientially enter into the daily life of a school or non-profit agency. This opportunity carries with it important responsibilities. All students are asked to honor the following:
- Communications
- Shared with you is the necessary information for your internship site and supervisor and with Mr. O'Connor. Please email all parties for any reason that pertains to your involvement and service.
- Absences:
- If you are absent for ANY reason - sickness, sports, college visits, etc. - you must email your supervisor and Mr. O'Connor at least one day in advance. In cases where you may wake up sick on the day of your Internship, you must email your supervisor and Mr. O'Connor prior to 8:00am, as you would notify the school of your absence.
- If you miss an Internship day, you must make up the time lost on your own an in collaboration with your supervisor. Internships are part of the class experience and as such are assessed a grade.
- Driving:
- All students must have a signed Driver Wavier on file.
- Any student driving to and/or from an Internship may only drive himself and NO other student under any circumstances.
- No parking arrangements are made for personal vehicles nor should there be an expectation for such arrangements.
- If transportation to/from an Internships requires a vehicle, the school van will most likely be used.
- Involvement
- Be proactive! Get involved in your placement. Notice what needs to be done, ask if you can do it, then engage. It is important that you show you can learn as you go and grow in engagement and responsibility.
- Many of our Sacred Heart Goals intersect with the Internship experience in terms of faith, learning, service, community, and wise freedom.
- Gratitude
- Be grateful, be joyful. You have the honor of impacting another life. What you do and say as well as what you do NOT do and say has an impact.
- Be mindful of your behaviors at all times. You not only represent yourself, you represent Start Hall High School and Schools of the Sacred Heart, San Francisco. This is a great responsibility!
